The Krkonoše Petanque Club, based in Vrchlabí,
was established in August 1994. Its foundation is directly related to the activities around the French partner town of Trouville sur Mer. Around the same time, mutually beneficial relations began to develop intensively, which eventually culminated in the signing of a partnership agreement between the French and Vrchlabí.
A group of people around Josef Pivoňka and Petr Štěpánek decided to surprise their French friends by inviting them to a game of the traditional French game. The idea caught on in Vrchlabí and the initial fun grew into a passion with a professional approach to the cause for many people. An important step was the foundation of a civic association, which gave an important order to the club's activities in the following years. Currently, with about thirty members, we are among the largest in the country.
In 1996, the first Czech clubs founded the Czech Association of Pétanque Clubs, which later also became a member of the international federation FIPJP. The Vrchlabský club has always been there. According to our date of birth, we are among the four oldest of its kind in the Czech Republic, and this was and is reflected on the field by winning many titles of national champions in various categories. The first sporting peak came in 1997, when our trio Václav Baláček †, Josef Pivoňka and Petr Štěpánek won the title of national champions in the triples category. This secured the right to start at the World Championships in the cradle of pétanque - the southern French city of Montpellier. Our club later won the championship title three more times, thanks to Petr Štěpánek, Michal Štěpánek, Martin Bartoš, Alice Hančová and Daniel Bílek. Unfortunately, this happened in the years when the representation at the World Championships was decided by additional qualification, where we never managed to succeed... In addition to titles in the prestigious triples category, we also won titles and medals in other competitions, especially the women were successful. In addition to Alice Hančová, in the past it was Martina Žižková and Zdeňka Štěpánková, currently Lucie Venclová. Alice and Lucka have participated in multiple World and European Championships in the women's category. At the European Championships in 2007, they both even became vice-champions of the old continent. In addition to the above-mentioned, Renata Zirmová, Aleš Vencl, Alice Pivoňková and Jaroslav Hanč also participated in titles in various categories.
In addition to sports titles and successes, we also have important organizational achievements: every year we organize the Krakonošovy koule, one of the oldest tournaments in the Czech Republic. In addition, one of the national championship tournaments is organized in Vrchlabí almost every year, whether it is a qualification or a final. This is evidence of the trust that the association places in our abilities.
