If you have opened and paid attention to your favorite browser during the weekend of 31st of July 2022, you might have noticed the good news: Google is celebrating Petanque.
Google is using his doodle to teach you in an interactive manner how to play petanque.
Google is promoting our iconic game and showing to the public about our vast extended and quintessential French outdoor sport.
Nevertheless, petanque is not only a “French stuff”, but it has also been spread in many European countries, as in old African and Asian colonies. In fact, the origins of petanque are back in the ancient Greeks period, who used to play with flat stones. The game was modified later by the Romans adding the target ball.
Nowadays, formal petanque exists since 1907 coming from Provence in France.
Coming back to Google, the game gives a chance to understand the rules and the dynamic of the legs and the whole match and it allows players to compete online with other people around the world.
